Novak Djokovic will not play in ATP CUP 2022

 

Novak Djokovic Serbian teammates admitted that after his late withdrawal from the ATP Cup, they are not sure whether the world number one will participate in the Australian Open. Djokovic is competing for his 21st Grand Slam title and his 10th Australian Open title.

The 34-year-old player is on the roster but has not yet committed to participating in the Australian Open after the COVID-19 vaccination approved by the Australian Tennis Association and the Victorian Department of Health. Djokovic repeatedly refused to reveal whether he is vaccinated or not, citing privacy issues.

His participation at the Australian Open was also in doubt by the withdrawal of the world number one from the Serbian team, which will take part in the ATP Cup in Sydney on January 1st.

World number 33 Dusan Lajovic was the No. 1 candidate to replace the 20-time Grand Slam winner in the team competition in Sydney and has tried to clarify the situation on Thursday.

Djokovic did not reveal why he leaves out Serbia's defense of the ATP Cup, Lajovic said.

“(Djokovic) said ‘I’m not coming to the ATP Cup, we’ll see about the Australian Open’,” Lajovic said.

"Djokovic said, ‘I’m not going to participate in the ATP Cup, we'll see more about the Australian Open," said Lajovic.
He didn't say whether he would come or not, but he is waiting for a decision.

Djokovic's information does not eliminate rumors about possible attempts to obtain a medical exemption from the COVID vaccine.

An independent panel of experts has been set up to review all exemption requests from players, coaches, and officials traveling to Australia.
