Andy Murray will return to the Australian Open

After three years of shock at the farewell video broadcast that played after his defeat in 2019, Andy Murray will return to the Australian Open as a wild card participant.

A 34-year-old Murray, was runner-up at Melbourne Park five times in the 2010-11, 2013, and 2015-16 seasons, but a severe hip injury at the time put him on the verge of retirement.

Since the Australian Open melee, he has never returned to the top 100 but returned to the 134th place, and later this year defeated the top 10 opponents Hubert Herkatz and Jannick Sinner.

The former world number one also entered the finals of the Mubadala World Tennis Championships in Abu Dhabi this month and the fifth-ranked Andrei Rublev finally stopped him.

Murray has become the men's singles wild card so far along with the US player Kozlov and the French player Lucas Puje. Four of them may be Australians and the other is an Asia-Pacific player.

A year after a positive Covid-19 test prevented him from playing in Melbourne, he promised to become one of the most dangerous unseeded players in the Australian Open draw.

Tournament Director Craig Tiley was not hesitant to grant Murray a wild card as the veteran Briton's battle gains momentum after injuries.

“Tiley said, as a five-time finalist, Andy Murray had many unforgettable moments at the Australian Open”.

He is known for his fighting spirit, enthusiasm, and love of the game, and I look forward to seeing him again in Melbourne in January.

"His heroic deeds made him a favorite of Melbourne Park fans."

Regarding the farewell video, Murray didn't speak to former British commentator Mark Petchey about his surprise on the pitch until about 11 months later.
