ATP CUP Prize Money Rise in 2022

After the influential second ATP Cup event appeared in 2021, it is expected that in 2022, it will be more profitable before the opening of the competition in 2023.

The total ATP prize money was increased from AUD 10 million (then USD 7.5 million) to AUD 14 million (approx. USD 9.85 million) and distributed to the participating national teams.

Although the severe pandemic in 2021 has brought gratifying growth, it is still significantly below the $ 22 million pool for the 2020 opening event.

Due to the pandemic, the ATP Cup is to be reduced to 12 teams in 2021. This season 16 teams will compete for the championship.

"There will be 16 teams fighting for the ATP Cup 2022 because they are only playing in one city," explains tournament director Tom Larner.

"We plan to restore the original 24-team ATP Cup system in three Australian cities in 2023," he added.

In the 2022 event, all games will take place in Sydney. The event took place in Melbourne Park in 2021 and was played in Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney in 2020 before the knockouts took place in Sydney

Russia became the defending champion after beating Italy in the ATP Cup final in 2021.

They have won the Davis Cup for the third time in Madrid, Spain, and defeated Croatia in the final, before entering 2022 in less than a month.

Eligibility for the ATP Cup depends on the ranking of a country’s top singles players out of 15 countries. The host, Australia, enters through a wild card.

This means that Serbia will not be eligible if world number one Novak Djokovic decides not to travel to Australia for the event and the Australian Open.

The USA would take their place as the 15th qualified team, with world number 23 Taylor Fritz as number one in the singles.
